Capture Kenya :: Samburu
Remember Capture Kenya? When a couple of photographers; Allan Gichigi, Gathoni Kinyanjui, Migwa ‘Migz’ Nthiga, Tom Otieno & I got a super chance to travel around the country taking photos for Safaricom’s 2014 calendar. I got the route to Isiolo photographing all over Central province to North Eastern. It was a brilliant, though hurried (we were on a tight deadline) experience and we made the most of it. I started sharing some of the photos I shot during the period, most of these didn’t make it into the calendar but were exhibited during the launch (some not). This is part 2 of the post which is all based in Samburu.

After leaving Central province, we made a mad dash for Samburu where we knew we'd do quite a bit of shooting. We came across a traditional Samburu village which ended up being our one stop shop for 'models' and started shooting immediately (it was late afternoon) as time was really not on our side.
A few minutes into taking her photos, this lady said it was enough as I was sucking her blood (lifeline) with my camera. After that, I only had a few more shots and had to move on to my next subject. I loved her features though and loved the photos she made.
We then moved on to this quarry that served as the perfect background for the next set of shots (above). That was all we could shoot that day as the clouds rolled in and the day was over. We decided to shoot more at sunrise the next day.
The scene for our early morning shoot was River Ewaso Nyiro which, as we found out that morning, has crocodiles (I didn't see any). We had to shoot on rocks that were in the river so we just asked everyone to be extra watchful and if they saw any crocs, to shout. The producer, Cindy kept yelling at me to wrap it up and get back on safe land as I was just starting to get excited about the shoot so I just gave in and came back, mostly because I couldn't focus with the constant reminder of crocodiles near me.
And by noon of that day, we were on our way to Isiolo. Look at that road. So sweet, I feel like I should be on it on a bike. Yes. That's a plan.
